Viking Farewell creates two foot long, burnable, shippable Viking ships out of wood. We do this to celebrate the strength of the heroes who have passed on in elegant ship burning rituals.

Our founder, Lionel, is an engineer, manufacturer and a grief-bearer. He was born in France, and raised in the US by a family of Swedish-speaking Finns. Learning their old language growing up, and visiting Viking ship museums in Iceland and Denmark kindled a curiosity in him that soon grew into a flame.

When purpose finally clicked for him, Lionel’s love for working with nature’s timeless materials, his talent for shaping experiences and a deep respect for the power of people’s stories, merged. These elements defined the vision for Viking Farewell in mid 2025. After years of felling trees and hand crafting ships, he was called to bring the magic of dragon long ships and Viking funerals to people for whom a traditional funeral ceremony wasn't in the cards. If you've ever wanted to burn a ship in honor of your Viking warrior, this is your chance.

We hope that this new take on an old ritual will live on in your hearts long after the ship has made it's voyage to Valhalla. Loss hurts, sharing it together, helps. Expressing our love and our pain, heals. That’s why we do this.

Not all heroes are celebrated. But together, we can honor them.
